Changing Lives One Dog At A Time
At Smart Service Dog, we follow advanced scent detection methodologies that have shaped the modern standard for gluten and allergen detection dogs. Early pioneers in this field established the foundation for what is now a highly specialised and reliable form of assistance dog training.
Building on these proven principles, Smart Service Dog implements structured detection protocols (TDS Protocol) that enable our dogs to accurately identify target odours in real-world environments. Our programmes incorporate both a clear “indication” behaviour (alerting to the presence of an allergen such as gluten) and an “all-clear” behaviour (confirming the absence of the allergen), ensuring handlers receive precise and dependable feedback.
Our Controlled Search Approach
At Smart Service Dog, we utilise a refined version of controlled search techniques(TDS). In this process, a sample is safely presented to the dog, who is trained to assess it and communicate one of two outcomes:
- Indication Behaviour – signalling the presence of the target allergen
- All-Clear Behaviour – confirming the product is safe
This structured method allows for consistent, accurate detection in everyday environments such as homes, restaurants, and public spaces.
Blind & Bias-Free Detection Training
To ensure the highest level of reliability, Smart Service Dog incorporates blind and concealed search training methods. In this process:
- Samples are hidden or masked from the handler
- The dog independently evaluates each sample
- The handler only verifies the result after the dog has responded
This approach removes handler influence and bias, strengthening the dog’s true scent detection ability and ensuring trustworthy results outside of controlled environments.
At Smart Service Dog, our commitment is to deliver highly trained detection dogs that provide independence, safety, and confidence—changing lives one dog at a time.
