What is Name a Puppy?
Our Name a Puppy programme gives you the unique opportunity to be part of a service dog’s journey right from the very beginning. By giving a puppy the special gift of a name, you’ll follow their inspiring story as they grow, train, and work towards becoming a life-changing partner for someone living with a disability.
We offer four different naming levels – Name, Raise, Train and Transform – each designed to let you share in a puppy’s incredible journey. With regular “pupdates” you’ll see how your chosen pup develops, and some levels even include the chance to meet the puppy you’ve named in person.
Why Name a Puppy?
🐾 For the puppy – A name is more than just a word; it’s a gift of identity. It becomes the most important word they will learn, their signal that says, “this message is for you.”
🐾 For you – Naming a puppy is an amazing way to support Smart Service Dog Durban. You’ll look forward to every update about your puppy’s progress, and know that your fundraising has played a real role in creating independence and freedom for someone in need.
🐾 For someone with a disability – Service dogs are truly life-changing. They bring hope, confidence, joy, independence, and companionship. Your contribution helps make that possible.
Who Can Name a Puppy?
Anyone can! You could:
- Name a puppy yourself
- Join with friends to celebrate a special occasion
- Honour the memory of a loved one
- Take it on as a workplace or team challenge
- Choose it as a “Charity of the Year” project
- Get your school, youth group, or sports club involved
How Does It Work?
Step 1 – Get in touch
Fill in our quick registration form on our https://smartservicedog.co.za/needs-sponsorships/ We’ll explain the naming levels and help you choose the perfect one. You’ll also receive fundraising ideas and tips to get started.
Step 2 – Fundraise with fun
Rally your family, friends, colleagues or community to help you raise funds in creative ways.
Step 3 – Reach your target
Once your donation is received, you’ll complete our official Puppy Naming Form.
Step 4 – Meet your pup
You’ll receive the exciting news that your named puppy has arrived and is ready to begin their journey to becoming a Smart Service Dog. Because this follows a real puppy in real time, waiting periods may vary.
